Originally with the saxon name of Bricstow until 1204, Bristol was founded in 1000 as a trading centre. The city and county measuring 20 square miles (110 km2), it has a population of around half a million people. In 2014 and 2017, the Sunday Times named it the best city in Britain to live in.
