Known as blue lotus or blue water lily, the flower is a symbol of the universe itself. Rooted in the mud, it rises through and blossoms, expressing purity and enlightenment undefiled from the confusion of the world. Illustration by botanist Pierre-Joseph Redouté (1759–1840).
