Originally name by the Saxons as Giseldone in 1005, it changed to Isledon until the 17th century, and finally resulted in its current name of Islington. With a population of over 200,000, measuring 5.74 square miles (14.86 km2), it has the highest population density of local authorities in England and Wales.
