French portrait painter, Élisabeth Vigée Le Brun (1755-1842) portrays Emma, also known as Lady Hamilton, performing the dance of Bacchante. With shawls and veils, Lady Hamilton’s performances, inspired by figures of Greek and Etruscan vases, became renowned within the British society circles.
