Louis Wain’s cat illustrations were very popular in Victorian England. As H. G. Wells put it, “He made the cat his own. He invented a cat style, a cat society, a whole cat world.” Despite suffering severe mental health problems, Wain continued to draw for pleasure, with cats being at the forefront of his work.
