Dolly Varden, from the Charles Dickens novel ‘Barnaby Rudge,’ was a beautiful coquette known for her lavish outfits. Since the character’s style was so iconic, ‘Dolly Varden’ became the colloquial name for a fashionable women’s outfit from the years 1869 to 1875.
