As the poplar tree is known for growing quickly even from broken branches on the ground, it is commonly associated to courage, fertility, wealth and endurance. In early renaissance, poplar wood was often used as a support for panel paintings such as the famed Mona Lisa. Artwork by Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890).
