The seasonal greeting of “Merry Christmas” dates back to 1500 in London when the greeting was written in a letter to minister Thomas Cromwell. In the 16th century, the phrase gained popularity used in the Christmas carol “We Wish You a Merry Christmas”, and further popularised when appearing in the novella by Charles Dickens in 1843.
