British painter, Samuel Luke Fildes (1843-1927), was born in Liverpool and studied at South Kensington Art School and Royal Academy Schools. He was knighted by King Edward VII in 1906, and appointed Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order by King George V in 1918.
