By British artist William Wood (1769–1810). Wood began formal training at the Royal Academy in 1785 aged sixteen. He was quickly recognised in the field of miniature painting, and one of his ambition was to raise the recognition of portrait miniatures and watercolour to be considered as ‘high art’.
