The first hot air balloon flight was demonstrated flying over the heads of Louis XVI, Marie Antoinette, and the French court in Versailles in 1783. Animals were chosen to test the flight, which after a 1500 feet high voyage of 2 miles lasting 8 minutes, the animals were brought safely to the ground unharmed.
