MASCULINE WAVES: Japanese Greeting Card

During his final years, Hokusai was in dire financial straits and was invited to move to Obuse by his benefactor. One work was a commission to paint the ceilings of two large festival floats. He painted the Masculine Waves and the Feminine Waves, reminiscent of the famous Great Wave.
